Review of Blackpool Urgent Treatment Centre
28th December 2023

I am now been treated by the leg man Mr Michael Miller and I'm happier now started my appointments with him last week at walk in centre white gate drive blackpool up untill then I'd been going to urgent care for re dressings for six week's before I was sent to leg man.

Suggested improvements
Apparently I think the urgent care could of sent me to leg man sooner then the bad cut could of been seen to by him sooner and my leg wouldn't of still been as bad or taking as long to heal. Staff do a good job although I should of been referred sooner because it started to get worse after a few week.

I had been in a car accident. I had limited mobility in neck, right shoulder and right arm and tingling into my hand plus headache and nausea. After 2 hours of waiting (stood up), I had to leave to go home and lie down. I left as I was advised there could be another 3 hours waiting. There was standing room only and literally c30 people were stood as all the seats were taken. It was not the fault of the service however c5 hours wait potentially stood up is clearly not manageable as the reasons for attendance is illness or injury. I have still not been seen as cannot drive and the doctors are now striking. I have remained at home resting and self medicating waiting to see a physiotherapist as I still cannot move my neck very well. This service needs a better triage as it cannot bear the weight of use. Not fit for purpose.

Suggested improvements
More robust triage sending people to a pharmacy as many were clearly there with coughs and colds.

We went after ringing 111 for my daughter who we suspected was just starting with chicken pox as well as the issue we were there for. Was informed by 111 to inform reception staff we suspected my daughter had chicken pox so they could potentially seat us in a quieter area to prevent spreading it. When I informed the receptionist she was rude and blunt and said we can't change your triage. I didn't want mu triage changing I was just informing my daughter had chicken pox but instead was told to find a seat in a over crowded waiting area. As it was late on, during our wait to be seen they started seeing people that had just walked in to be triaged which I thought focus on the patients that have already been waiting for 3 hours. The nurse that did see to us was lovely though, even making my daughter feel comfortable so a big thank you to her.

Suggested improvements
Listen to my concerns about seating in a crowded area full of elderly and young children with a child with chicken pox
